4 Packing tips to travel light

Our biggest tip when it comes to packing to travel light is “multi-purpose”. Seriously, why pack 2 or 3 things when you can pack 1 thing that does it all?! Seems like a no-brainer.

What’s our second biggest tip? Planning. When you plan and create your packing list according to some good old-fashioned thinking combined with some research, you can have it all in one lightweight backpack, or travel bag, that does not need to be checked in at the airport.

Our packing tips with some of our good old-fashioned thinking, and some borrowed thinking:

1. Make a PACKING LIST

Check the weather for your trip and plan accordingly. First write everything you would want, and then start culling that list down to the necessities.

Keep re-checking and re-working to see where you could scratch things off, or replace with a multi-purpose product.

2. Make sure your clothing items are multi-purpose

Eg: When you pack shorts, pack shorts that you can swim in, hike in or simply just chill around the campfire with. Other great ideas we found:

1 – High quality rain jacket can replace windbreakers, umbrellas or backpack rain covers.

2 – A buff can be used as a neck warmer or protection against the elements like sun or dust. Never mind the something to hide a messy hairdo behind, or keep the sweat out of your eyes!

3. Take the must haves, and leave the nice-to-haves behind

It is common to overpack, especially when it comes to our toiletries. We are not often sure on what we will need, so we take more than what we need in order to play it safe.

So, let’s talk about what we NEED:

    1. Hygiene – a good body wash. Even better is a good for the planet, all-in-one hair and body wash that weighs in at 31g, and is only 60ml! Perfect for keeping your backpack or travel bag lightweight, and perfect for carry-on luggage! #travelsizebodywash #multifunctional #natural
    2. Sun Protection – we don’t even need to tell you how necessary this is, because nothing ruins a good summer adventure like getting burnt on day 1 and not being able to enjoy the outdoors for the next few days. Never mind how bad it is for your skin! So, choose a travel-size lightweight SPF50 sunscreen with moisturising properties so that you are not only protected, but your skin gets the hydration it needs! #travelsizesunscreen #moisturising #multipurpose
    3. Bug Repellent – don’t let those critters ruin your adventure OR your precious sleep! A natural travel-size moisturising insect repellent is your answer to lightweight packing AND protection against the buggers that won’t bug off. All this while keeping your skin moisturised! #travelsizeinsectrepellent #naturalinsectrepellent #moisturising
    4. Moisturising – nothing worse than having dry skin from the harsh elements of a good outdoor adventure. But why pack a cream or moisturiser when you can get all the skin hydration you need from the three products above? 24-7-365 hygiene and skin protection in a travel-size bundle weighing in at only 171g for all three. What more do you need?

4. Select the right backpack or bag

The bigger your bag, the more you will find to put in there. Also, what’s the point of putting a bunch of lightweight things is a heavy bag? That makes no sense!

Check the dimensions and weight of your travel bag or backpack before purchasing.

5. Don’t pack in a rush

This is our planning phase. Dedicate time to doing some planning and research on products, and creating the perfect packing list.

This list will undoubtably be your base packing list for all future adventures. When you pack in a rush, you are doomed to be packing things that you don’t actually need, so work in that time to plan!
